Film funding in Denmark

Four films are to receive funding from the Danish Film Institute this year. One of them, Forbrydelser, is a “Dogma” directed by Annette K. Olesen who made her name with Sma ulykker, that is being produced despite Lars von Trier’s having closed down his Dogma office in Copenhagen. Forbrydelser is scheduled to be released next year and was co-produced by Zentropa, Egmont and Denmark’s Radio with a 10.5 mio KR (under Euros 1.5 million) contribution to the budget.
Zentropa received a 10.6 mio KR (Euros 1.5 million circa) grant from the Institute to make Malene Vilstrup’s Spogelseshesten (Laughing horses). It is the story of two lonely girls who show all their affection to their horses.
Reconstruction, a surrealistic love story, was given around 5 mio KR (Euros 700,000 circa) by the Institute. Christoffer Boe who last year made his highly acclaimed directorial debut entitled Anxiety will direct. Norwegian and Swedish actress, Maria Bonnevie plays the two main roles in Jeg er Dina, a 9.5 mio KR (Euros 1.4 million circa) film co-funded by Nordisk Film and TV2, and written by Mogens Rukov. Rembrandt, directed by Jannik Johansen who came to prominence with Afsporet and a popular Danish TV series, was given 5 mio KR (Euros 700,000 circa). The film is about a troubled father and son who manage to get their hands on Denmark’s only authentic Rembrandt.
