Lola nominations unveiled

On Friday morning, the German Minister of Culture and president of the German Film Academy, Bernd Neumann, announced the nominees in the fifteen Lola Awards categories. The Lolas, or German film awards, will be presented on May 4 in Berlin.

This year’s favourites are Tom Tykwer’s Perfume: Story of a Murderer and Chris KrausFour Minutes, with eight nominations each, notably in the Best Film and Best Director categories.

Kraus also sees two of his film’s actresses vying for the Best Actress Lola, while two actors in Stefan Ruzowitzky film The Counterfeiters are in the running for Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor. The film, which competed at Berlin, is this time up for seven awards, including Best Film and Best Screenplay.

In addition, Minister Neumann announced prizes worth €1.95m for participants. The sums awarded, which can reach up to €250,000 for nominees in the Best Film category – are invested in future projects. Awards worth a total €895,000 will be presented at the closing ceremony.
