German documentary triumphs at Nyon
Söhne by Germany’s Volker Köpp has won the Grand Prize at the 13th Visions du Réel Festival, which ended yesterday.
The international jury also presented an award to Claudio Pazienza’s Belgian/French documentary Scènes de chasse au sanglier.
Three other competition films were among the prize-winners. Welcome Europa by French director Bruno Ulmer took the Inter-religious Jury Prize, which was also awarded to State Legislature by US master Frederick Wiseman, while the Young Public Jury Prize went ex-aequo to Cabale à Kaboul by Belgium’s Dan Alexe and Manufactured Landscapes by Canada’s Jennifer Baichwal.
Das Leben ist ein langer Tag by Svenja Klüh (Germany) and Akhmeteli 4 by Artchil Khetagouri (Georgia) were the winners of the Regards Neufs section and Le côté obscur de la dame blanche by Patricio Henriquez (Canada) received the Regards sur le crime Prize.
Swiss documentaries were also not forgotten with an Audience Award for Stefan Schwietert’s Echoes of Home and two films honoured by the Swiss Cinema Jury, Benoît Rossel’s Le théâtre des opérations and Pierre-Yves Borgeaud’s Retour à Gorée.
