CANNES 2007 Critics’ Week

Grand Prize for XXY and double win for Jellyfish

European co-productions with the rest of the world were among the prizewinners at the 46th Critics’ Week, which this evening awarded its Grand Prize to Argentinean director Lucía Puenzo’s XXY.

Produced by Argentinean outfit Historias cinematograficas, the 30 year-old director’s feature debut was co-produced by Spain’s Wanda Vision and France’s Pyramide, who is also handling international sales and will distribute the title in French cinemas. The film also walked away with the ACID Prize.

Another European-initiated co-production – Jellyfish by Israeli directing duo Etgar Keret and Shira Geffen (see news) – won the SACD Prize and the OFAJ (Very) Young Critic Award. This was a good achievement for the 55% French production (Les Films du Poisson). Arte France Cinéma, Canal+ and TPS also funded the feature through pre-sales. The title is being sold internationally by Pyramide.
