Kinowelt promises German audiences Kusturica

Bosnian director Emir Kusturica's eighth film, Cannes competition entry Promise Me This [+see also:

, has been bought by Leipzig-based distributor Kinowelt Filmverleih.

Kusturica built a whole village for the film – which is presented in the form of a fairytale – and chose a top-calibre cast, including some of the director's regular actors.

Promise Me This is an international co-production between Rasta Films, France's Fidélité, France 2 Cinéma, and StudioCanal, who are also handling sales on the title.

Other Kinowelt acquisitions included films from other continents, such as Bill Guttentag's provocative American satire Live!, Thai director Pen-ek Ratanaruang's Ploy and Xiaogang Feng's Chinese title The Banquet.
