FESTIVALS Poland

From one minute to an hour

by

Andrzej Żuławski will be jury president of the 47th International Krakow Polish Film Festival (May 31-June 5). The festival – which was originally reserved for shorts – changes from year to year.

This year the 46 films selected in international official competition vary in length from one minute to an hour and include documentaries and animated and fiction films. The list of directors is not monopolised by the "big countries". The four corners of the world are represented, with films from India, Iran, Egypt and Turkey.

The winner of the international competition will receive the Golden Dragon and the Golden Lajkonik will be awarded to Best Polish Director in the national competition. The major new addition this year is the features competition, where 10 will compete for the Golden Horn award.

For the second time, the festival will hold the Krakowskie Targi Filmowe (the cinema market), a platform for film professionals to exchange experiences. It will be open to all industry representatives and based in the Krakow National Museum. Participants can attend conferences on production, sales and promotion. The films shown at the market are available in the digital or video format.

This year, the market has attracted a record number of productions – over 650 titles, or double that of last year's. European films dominate, especially German, French and British productions, but there is also no shortage of films from Central and Eastern Europe, Asia, Latin America and Africa.
