PRODUCTION Germany

A meaty new title

by

The film adaptation of Heinz Strunk’s bestseller Fleisch ist mein Gemüse (lit. "Meat Is My Vegetable") is in post-production.

Filming took place in and around Hamburg at the end of February and the end of March, under the helm of the prize-winning television director Christian Görlitz.

The tragicomedy, written by the director and produced by Susanne Freyer (who will be working with Görlitz for the eighth time) for ndF (neue deutsche Filmgesellschaft), features the book’s author narrating the adventures of the young Heinz (Maxim Mehmet) in the mid-1980s.

Heinz, 24, still has acne, is out of work and has no girlfriend, but he is a musician in a band called Tiffany's. All of a sudden he finds himself in a world of alcohol, money and women – and an unhealthy diet (which consists, for example, of eating meat with meat to avoid vegetables), something that he has difficulty in avoiding.

Fleisch ist mein Gemüse, backed by the nordmedia fund and Filmförderung Hamburg, also received funding from the Deutschen Film- u. Fernsehfonds.

The film is expected to be released by Universal Pictures International Germany early next year.
