Shooting has begun in Rome on the independent film Aspettando il sole (lit. “Waiting for the Sun”), produced by laCasal and Mikado Film. Helmed by debut director Ago Panini, the cast features no less than 16 actors: Sergio Albelli, Raoul Bova, Giuseppe Cederna, Massimo De Lorenzo, Corrado Fortuna, Gabriel Garko, Claudia Gerini, Guido Morozzi, Vanessa Incontrada, Raiz, Rolando Ravello, Claudio Santamaria, Bebo Storti, Alessandro Tiberi, Thomas Trabacchi and Michele Venitucci.

The film tells a story set in Italy in the 1980s: three criminals come across an out-of-the-way hotel, a hideout at the edge of the world. However, they are not alone at the Bellevue: behind the walls and number-less doors other lives lie hidden, other stories, of love and desperation, destined to meet. A delicate thread, revealed at the end, tied all of their destinies. An ensemble film that mixes sparkling comedy with dark shades of noir.

Panini (who also co-founded laCasa) has previously directed numerous commercials as well as music videos (for Zucchero, Vinicio Capossela, Paolo Conte, Almamegretta and Bluebeaters, among others).

Shooting will take place in Rome and Ostia and will last five weeks. The film’s blog is already online at www.aspettandoilsole.it, offering a backstage look at the everyday goings-on in making the film.

Aspettando il sole will be released by Mikado in Italy sometime next year.
