A German autumn for Angelopoulos
Renowned Greek director Théo Angelopoulos will direct a part of his upcoming film The Dust of Time in North Rhine Westphalia in late October.
The joint production between Greece (Angelopoulos Film), France (Cinéma Soleil), Italy (Classic and Albachiara), Germany (Lichtmeer Film, Cologne) and Canada tells the story of a 50 year-old filmmaker, A., who films the epic destiny of his parents and their frustrated loves during the Cold War. As he gradually carries out an investigation on both sides of the former Iron Curtain that for many years separated their father and mother, A. becomes a key figure in his film.
The Dust of Time stars Harvey Keitel, Bruno Ganz (1998 Palme d’Or for Eternity and a Day), Willem Dafoe and Valeria Golino.
Last week, the Filmstiftung Nordrhein-Westfalen granted Lichtmeer €750,000 for the production of the film. Angelopoulos is currently in Cologne for the International Congress of the Regional Fund.
NFP will release The Dust of Time domestically, while German outfit The Match Factory will handle international sales.
