Spike Lee to shoot “miracle” in Tuscany

by

Spike Lee will be in Rome at the beginning to July to begin his new project (working title: Miracle at St. Anna), the first international, high-budget production of On My Own, the new company founded by Italy’s Roberto Cicutto and Luigi Musini after their two-decade tenure at Mikado.

The film by the US director, developed in collaboration with the Mediateca Regionale - Tuscany Film Commission, is based on the eponymous novel by James McBride and tells of the massacre in Sant’Anna di Stazzema, a small town in the Alta Versilia region where 560 inhabitants were killed by Nazis on August 12, 1944. The film will recount the adventures of a group of African-American soldiers of the 92nd “Buffalo” Infantry Division stationed in Tuscany, at a time when black US soldiers were still discriminated against by their white peers.

Lee has stated that he wants to portray the events with the greatest historical accuracy: "This is one of the reasons I wanted to work with two Italian producers I respect, who will also guide me in making determining choices,” he said.
