Haneke gets helping hand for Das weiße Band

by

The French/German funding committee has allotted €500,000 to the production of Michael Haneke’s new film, Das weiße Band, which will go back in time to the early 20th century in a rural school to depict the emergence of national socialism.

Berlin-based X Filme Creative Pool (50%) received €300,000, while €200,000 went to French outfit Les Films du Losange (25%) for the production of the film, which will star Susanne Lothar and outstanding actor Ulrich Mühe. The third co-producer is Austria’s Wega Film. Haneke is currently finishing up a US remake of his film Funny Games. Production on Das weiße Band is slated for completion by the end of 2009.

Meanwhile, Florian Gallenberger was given funding for his upcoming John Rabe, a “Schindler-esque “story of the Nanking massacre. Munich-based outfit Hofmann & Voges Entertainment (77.35%) received €300,000 for the production, while its French partner Pampa Productions (22.65%) was awarded €100,000.
