AGIS against reform
by Cineuropa
Alberto Francesconi, president of AGIS (an umbrella association within the entertainment industry), rejected the two proposed cinema reforms presented in Parliament by the Ulivo and the Communist parties.
As announced by the APCOM agency, during a television interview today Francesconi explained that "the proposed operating tax is unattainable". He also rejected the proposal of a National Film Agency based on the French one that, according to the AGIS president, "is a model that would not work in Italy because there is no marked distinction between bureaucracy and politics".
Even the film reform law proposed by the Communist Party leaves Francesconi perplexed, except for the VAT, which "for cinema should be brought to four percent". He later added that he is "in favour of direct financing from the State prevalently oriented towards research and the discovery of new talent. The rest of the resources should go to maintaining automatic mechanisms that grant awards for those who achieve solid box office results or who offer tax credits and to facilitate investment in the film industry".
