ROMEFILMFEST 2007 Extra

A competition for online shorts

by

Short films, made using any technology and on any medium, have made it to the RomeFilmFest (October 18-27). An agreement with MySpace (www.myspace.com) has greenlit, through July 18, the Corti On Line competition of short films with a maximum five-minute running time. The selected works will screen in the festival’s Extra section.

“For several years now, the web has become the freest and most inventive platform for short narration of images and sounds,” said director of Extra Mario Sesti. “This year, we want to start exploring the endless ocean of the web to discover if something residing there resembles cinema and simultaneously launched a competition that will allow anyone, from Alaska to Pakistan, to participate in an international festival simply by uploading one of their shorts onto one of the most visited sights on the Internet”.

The competition is divided into five categories: best narrative short, best music video, best short made with a cell phone, best animated short and best mush up.

The shorts must be uploaded onto MySpace from July 18-September 2 (rules and regulations can be consulted at www.myspace.com/romefilmfest).

By September 4, the competition’s selection committee will choose the best 75 works (15 per category). The selected shorts will then be broadcast on MySpace and can be voted on from September 10-30. The winners will receive an exclusive object made especially for the occasion by Morellato, the competition’s official partner.

A jury of experts will further present a special prize to one of the entire selection of films. The awards ceremony will take place during the RomeFilmFest, where the winners will be able to walk down the red carpet alongside renowned actors and filmmakers.
