A new start at the Dutch Film Fund

by

After a ministerial decision not to renew the contracts of the president and some members of the Dutch Film Board board, the entire board stepped down at the beginning of July. The main point of contention was the change of organisational structure requested by the Ministry of Culture but thought badly timed by the fund board since it has just implemented two new funding schemes.

The ministry has now appointed an interim board that will stay on until February 2008: interim president is Hans van Beers, with Inge van der Vlies and Kees Telkamp completing the board.

The new funding schemes include a "supplement regulation" that offers producers the remainder for feature films with at least 65% of their budget in place. Twelve projects have already applied for the new kind of aid (see news) that was officially approved by the European Commission last week.

Willemijn de Vries, an experienced media lawyer, drafted for the regulation, with Peggy Bussink, formerly of Isabella Films, Fine BV and New Haven Productions, taking on the role of project coordinator.
