Swiss films on VOD
On August 1, public television service SRG SSR idée suisse is launching a series of films that will be available on video on demand (VOD) for a fee.
For a six-month pilot phase, Internet sites and three national television channels – Schweizer Fernsehen (SF), Télévision suisse romande (TSR) and Televisione svizzera di lingua italiana (TSI) – will offers viewers the chance to see Swiss films made between 1995 and 2005 as part of “Pacte de l’audiovisuel”, a co-production agreement between television and industry associations.
Between 800 and 1000 films for cinema and television, series and documentaries, shorts and features will be available for temporary downloading for 48 hours. Head of General Affairs on the SRG SSR idée suisse Board of Directors and the brains behind the project, Alberto Chollet, aims to promote national audiovisual heritage by putting together an exhaustive catalogue, which will offer a second lease on life to all films co-produced in Switzerland with television financing.
Telephone operator Swisscom has been the only company up to now to offer a VOD service.
