- Great American success for the Danish Italian for beginners which has already taken 4.5 millions €

The prize-winning Danish comedy Italian for beginners by the Danish director Lone Scherfigs has been a big success in the American film market. The film has won many awards, including the Jury Prize at the 2001 Berlin Film festival. It was first released two years ago in Denmark, and is currently in the list of the 50 most-seen movies in America. No Danish film has ever been so popular amongst American moviegoers, not even Lars von Triers, or Cannes winner Dancer in the Dark or the Oscar winning Pelle the conqueror by Bille August have had such success. Italian for beginners is produced by one of the biggest production companies in Denmark, Zentropa, which has estimated that the Danish film has already taken around 4.5 million euros at the American box office.
