MEDIA launches call for support to international sales agents

by

The new MEDIA Programme call for proposals (ref. EACEA 24/07) for Support to International Sales Agents of European Cinematographic Films was published in the EU Official Journal on September 4. The support, worth a total budget of €1m, is broken down into two phases:

1) a first phase of generating support, determined according to the agent’s activities.

To access the potential €25,000 fund, the agent has to prove that:
– from January 1, 2003 to December 31, 2006 it was the designated agent for the international sales of at least eight recent European films (including at least one from another European country) in at least 10 countries participating in MEDIA 2007.
– it sold at least four of these films in at least three countries during the same period;

If the above conditions are met, potential complementary support is calculated on the basis of the percentage of support generated by distributors for automatic support (ref. 05/2007) by films and for territories sold by the agent.

The closing date for applications is November 15, 2007;

2) a second phase of reinvestment: support generated must be reinvested in minimum distribution guarantees or promotional costs of European non-national films. Up to 50% of these costs must be reinvested.

Requests for reinvestment must be sent between November 15, 2007 and November 14, 2008 to the Commission.
