Via Veneto: Rome’s business street
Via Veneto, the symbol of Hollywood on the Tiber, is in the cinema spotlight once again. From October 18-21 the RomeFilmFest will hold, on the street of La Dolce Vita, the second edition of its market, The Business Street, which after last year’s success now aims to consolidate the attention (and favour) of the international industry and specify its objectives and strategies.
From the onset its mission has been to be a point of reference for quality cinema and the international business community (especially the European community), with a flexible structure that is both an Industry Office for the Fest and a special initiative within the event’s general programme.
To that end, The Business Street, directed by Giorgio Gosetti and coordinated by Diamara Parodi and Sylvain Auzou, offers four intense days of screenings (approximately 120, in ten cinemas), presentations and in-depth discussions involving a growing number of industry operators. So far, 250 buyers, sellers, production companies and national institutions have been accredited and 500 professionals have confirmed their participation, a 25% increase over last year.
Some of the most highly anticipated events programmed at the Street’s headquarters at the Hortii Sallustiani, which are open to those without accreditation as well, include the October 20 presentation by the Italian Documentary Filmmakers Association (Doc/it), The Feature Length Documentary Professional Meeting, during which a dozen European and US directors and producers with discuss with their Italian counterparts to discuss all aspects of the development, financing and distribution of documentary cinema.
Furthermore, on October 21, the World Forum on Strategy and Finance, with the Media Consulting Group, will speak on the new cultural and economic ties between the European Union and Eastern Europe. The following day, API (Italy’s Independent Producers Association) will present World Going Digital: New Territories of Creation & Distribution, on new frontiers in digital cinema.
