Indergand receives award in China
On October 27, the jury of the 9th Sichuan TV Festival in Chengdu awarded a Golden Panda to master Swiss DoP Peter Indergand (50) for his work on The Giant Buddhas, a documentary by compatriot Christian Frei about the Taliban’s destruction of the Bamiyan stone giants in Afghanistan.
Indergand had already been nominated at this twice-yearly festival in 2003 for the director’s previous film, War Photographer, which won the Award for Best Documentary after picking up an Oscar nomination in 2002.
A 1982 graduate of the American Film Institute in Los Angeles, Indergand lensed numerous Swiss and foreign films before his collaboration with Frei brought him significant international acclaim. Markus Imboden’s Heidi (2000), Richard Dindo’s Ni olvido ni perdòn (2002), and Rolando Colla’s Beyond The Border (2001) and L’autre moitié (2007) – to cite only a few recent Swiss titles – have all benefited from his talents.
