Maselli’s call to indignation

by

"I want to use images to evoke indignation, to touch consciences and depict the logic of capitalist and liberalist globalization that leads to the resigned acceptance of a tragic situation," said Citto Maselli, who returned after an 11-year absence behind the camera to make Civico 0, to be released November 23 on only five screens in Rome and Turin by Istituto Luce.

The very low-budget film (€350,000) stars Ornella Muti, Massimo Ranieri and Letizia Sedrick, with cinematography by Felice De Maria and an original score by Angelo Talocci.

Based on Federico Bonadonna’s book Il nome del barbone, the film’s three subplots are true stories of desolation and solitude, about two women (one African, the other Romanian) who come to Rome and try to survive with dignity in conditions of extreme poverty and a vegetable seller in Rome’s Campo de' Fiori who becomes homeless after the death of his mother.
