Film Meetings at Versailles

In Versailles the 5th Franco-German Film Meetings organised by Unifrance and German Films, officially kicked off today. Véronique Cayla (CNC) and Peter Dinges (FFA) opened the two-day event.

Towards the end of today, French and German Ministers of Culture Christine Albanel and Bernd Neumann will speak before an audience of around 400 industry professionals.

Issues set for discussion include new funding schemes and their implications for co-productions, involving an analysis of how the DFFF works and its compatibility with the French tax credit programme; as well as a close look at cash-flow and the role of banks, as illustrated by the example of Jaco van Dormael’s Mr Nobody (see interview), in which Philippe Godeau (Pan Européenne) and Alfred Hürmer (Integral Film) participated.

The programme for this afternoon includes a round table on the implementation of digital screening, a pitching session for ten projects and the presentation of 18 Up and Coming Stars from the acting world: French actors Melvil Poupaud, Nicolas Cazalé, Jennifer Decker, Valérie Donzelli, Mylène Jampanoi, Adrien Jolivet, Aïssa Maïga and Allyson Paradis; and German actors Martina Gedek, August Diehl, Alexander Fehling, Fabian Hinrichs, Sibel Kekilli, Anneke Kim Sarnau, Hinnerk Schönemann, Jördis Triebel and Sebastian Urzendowsky .

Topics under discussion on Saturday will include the impact of VoD on relations between the film and television industries (sale of VoD rights, distribution windows and contributions to film financing), on which Martin Moszkowicz (Constantin), Bertil Le Claire (Kinowelt) and Manuel Alduy (Canal +) will speak.
