Interview 1 - 3 Questions to Benedek Fliegauf

by

What should we expect from Tejút (Milky Way) in relation to your other works?
My former films were about what I have lost. Milky Way shows what I have found. This film gives fewer points of reference than the previous ones. There is no story, no dialogue and no hero. Milky Way is a film of the imagination.

The Torino Festival selected Milky Way for its experimental section “The Zone”. What does ‘experimental’ mean to you?
‘Experimental film’ - as every category - is a reduction. For me each film is an experiment. Still I was aware during the shooting that I am addressing fewer people than before. Milky Way is not only a film but a fine arts project. It is less than a film, but at the same time it is more. This sounds like a paradox, but after watching it things might become clearer.

You stated that you were happy to work in Hungary, despite all the difficulties.
The financial system is more flexible and supportive than in other European countries. We, young Hungarian filmmakers, consider ourselves as sovereign artists. We don’t think that we have common attributes. Do we need any stronger common attribute?
