Horror fascinates the crowds

film profile], directed by Jaume Balagueró and Paco Plaza (see Focus), grossed over €1.5m over its opening weekend in Spain.
Distributed on 274 prints screens by Filmax, the horror film’s 263,000 admissions has made it one of the most successful local releases of the year.
Premiered at the latest Venice Film Festival, REC also made a splash at Sitges (see news). A US remake, produced by Screen Gems and entitled Quarantine, began principal photography last November 9.
The public success of REC comes about two months after the release of another horror film, The Orphanage [+see also:

film profile], which is so far the top local hit of the year with over €10.6m grossed.
