Mediapro to back Woody Allen… out of Spain

by

Jaume Roures, president of Barcelona-based Mediapro, announced that his company will back Woody Allen's two upcoming films – which, however, will not be shot in Spain.

According to Roures, the decision not to film in Spain was driven by the "nasty pressures" felt last summer during the principal photography of Vicky Cristina Barcelona (formerly known as Midnight Barcelona, see news), which took place in Barcelona and in the Asturias region.

The film was repeatedly immersed in controversies and fake rumours regarding both the plot and the funding sources (see news).

"There was great controversy regarding the theoretical funding we received, which in fact, we never did," stated Roures, adding that Allen's upcoming film will be shot in San Francisco and the following one in another European country.

Back in the US, Allen and is currently editing Vicky Cristina Barcelona, whose local release is set for September 2008.
