As film figures rise, national titles snag 28% of market

Speaking at the current Sorrento Screenings on the 2007 data processed by film and audiovisual industry bodies ANEC, ANICA and ANEM, ANICA President Paolo Ferrari said: "Italy is the European country with the most favourable trend. Production houses offered films from Italy and beyond capable of winning over audiences and distribution companies took advantage of periods of the year in which it was previously difficult to release films. Film figures rose over 11% in 2007: from January 1-November 25, total box office reached €526.6m (+11.65% over 2006) and 88.7 million admissions were registered (+11.17%, according to Cinetel data).

The market share of Italian films, including co-productions, is at just under 28% of box office (€146.1m) and 28.14% of admissions (nearly 25 million). US-produced films represent 58% of the market – last year, the market share of Italian films was approximately 21% and 64% of US product.
