Interview 4 - 3 questions to Elise Domenach

What is the specificity of the Fipresci Jury award?
Our prize is not connected to money, it is more of an honorific title. Nevertheless, some members of the jury will help promoting the movie we awarded by writing reviews on our website and thereby aid its distribution. Our aim is to encourage new talents rather than established directors.

Do you think the growing amount of festivals is devaluating the prizes?
I think this is a great chance for films, as far as festivals have a strong identity. On the other hand, when it comes to generalist festivals, where the competition is not specialised and pretends to cover all the mediums and themes, the prize has no real significance.

What are your selection criteria and how does your philosophical approach affect your opinion?
I will naturally tend to privilege the quality of the photography and I feel aware that this could give an unfair advantage to 35 mm over digital. But I also judge a movie on its form and narration. I feel more touched by deep films, artistically and philosophically.
