film profile], Xavier Giannoli is currently in Northern France shooting his fourth feature, A l’origine (“In the Beginning”), which stars François Cluzet (2007 Cesar for Best Actor), Emmanuelle Devos and Gérard Depardieu.
Written by the director, the film follows a petty crook who passes himself off as a construction manager in charge of building a section of the motorway. He dupes an entire region, hires dozens of workers and cynically enjoys his deception, until he meets a woman, the mayor of a small town.
She stirs him, makes him feel more vulnerable and introduces him to the world of human emotions. How far will he go then in order to save his victims and himself from his lie?
Produced by Edouard Weil for Rectangle and co-produced by EuropaCorp, A l’origine has a budget of €9.8m.
The 67-day shoot will take place in the Cambrai region and Lille until February 2, before moving to the Ile-de-France region.
Domestic distribution and international sales will be handled by EuropaCorp.
