Chevalier named president of advances on receipts committee

by

Pierre Chevalier has been chosen to replace Claude Durand as head of the advances on receipts committee of the National Centre for Cinematography (CNC).

Member of the CNC’c selective aid committee in the 1980s, Chevalier then went on to become director of the Fictions d’Arte department, contributing to the production of films by Claire Denis, Laurent Cantet, Robert Guédiguian, Pascale Ferran, Olivier Dahan and Walter Salles.

The CNC has also revealed its estimates for 2007 audience figures in French theatres: 178.14m admissions, down 5.6% compared to 2006 (with a 12.6% decline in December).

The market share of French cinema amounts to 35.6% (44.6% in 2006) compared to 49.9% for US productions (44.2% in 2006) and 13.6% for other films (11.2% in 2006).

Particularly striking is the clear decrease in the number of intermediary successes with between 500,000 and 1m admissions (52 films in 2006 compared to 31 in 2007).
