Writers strike cancels ceremony

The Golden Globes ceremony, which was scheduled for Sunday January 13, has been reduced to a simple, hour-long press conference to be broadcast live.
The renowned ceremony, organised by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) and commonly seen as an anticipation to the Academy Awards, was cancelled after the Screen Actors Guild decided to encourage its members to skip the ceremony in solidarity with the two-month strike of the Writers Guild of America.
It was further rumoured that A-list actors intended to boycott the ceremony, including George Clooney, Denzel Washington, Angelina Jolie and Julie Christie.
After several television series and talk shows, internationally renowned awards ceremonies are the new targets of the writers strike, which has also cast a shadow on the Oscars, scheduled for February 24.
