Banfi benched again
Over 20 years after the first chapter, the character incarnated by Lino Banfi is back on the playing field in L’allenatore nel pallone 2 (“The Football Coach 2”).
Like the first, the sequel is directed by Sergio Martino and was produced for €6m (3% of which came from product placement) by Luciano Martino’s Dania Film with VIP Media and Rodeo Drive, in collaboration with Sky and Medusa Film.
For Banfi, the film marks a twofold return, to comedy as well as cinema, after a number of successful, and at times dramatic, television films and series.
Trusting in Italians’ passion for football and the success of other recent revivals (a trend inaugurated by Horse Fever: The Mandrake Sting and followed up by Eccezzziunale veramente. Capitolo secondo… me and Il ritorno del Monnezza), Medusa is looking to score a goal with a broad release of L’allenatore nel pallone 2 on January 11 on over 600 screens.
