115m admissions estimated for 2007
Last year registered the best results of the past 20 years (with the sole exception of 1998, the year of Titanic), according to AGIS’ industry paper Giornale dello Spettacolo. In 2007 admissions in Cinetel-monitored Italian theatres were 103.6 million, marking an increase of 12.28% over 2006.
As Cinetel collects data on 90% of Italian theatres, overall results, which will be disclosed by SIAE in a few moments, can be estimated at around 115 million admissions.
Domestic films ended the year with a market share of over 31%, and three were among the Top 25 box office grossing titles.
According to Paolo Protti, president of national film exhibitors association ANEC, three key factors played a role in these results: "Valid and varied product, blockbusters released in June and July, in particular Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix [+see also:
