, the melancholic and delirious debut feature by Dimitri Karakatsanis (a young director who previously worked in advertising), is being released this week by A-Films on five screens in Flanders and Brussels.

Labelled an arthouse film and starring Steefi Peeters, Luoiza Vande Woestijine (two non-professional actresses), Titus de Voogdt and Dirk Van Dijck, Small Gods is a twilight road movie. Three lost souls wander aimlessly and try, without much success, to steer their destinies beneath a silent sky.

Produced on a budget of €50,000 by the director and his brother (Nicolas Karakatsanis, a talented DoP), Small Gods received backing from Peter De Maegd of CCCP Production and was awarded a film completion grant (€60,000) from the Vlaams Audiovisueel Fonds (VAF).

The latter have just given Karakatsanis a scriptwriting grant of €12,500 for Le mensonge (“The Lie”), an upcoming feature produced once again by CCCP.
