by Marjane Satrapi and Vincent Paronnaud (see Focus) will vie for honours in the Best Animated Film category and two shorts have been selected: Philippe Pollet-Villard’s Le Mozart des pickpockets (Karé Production) in the Live Action category and Même les pigeons vont au paradis by Samuel Tourneux and Simon Vanesse (Buf Compagnie) in the Best Animated Short Film category.

Among the five contenders nominated for the 2008 Best Actress Oscar is Marion Cotillard, who will be hoping to follow in the footsteps of Simone Signoret (crowned Best Actress in 1959). The last French actress to vie for this award was Catherine Deneuve in 1992.

The 2008 Oscars will be presented on February 24.
