Cinéart spreads its wings to the Netherlands

The distributor Cinéart, headed by Eliane Dubois, has announced the creation of a theatrical distribution arm in the Netherlands. DVD rights will also be handled by its Belgian company, Twin Pics.

Until now, the Benelux distribution rights of many films were handled by either A-films in the Netherlands or Cinéart in Belgium. But the creation of A-films Belgium last year no doubt altered the situation on both sides of the border.

Based in Hilversum, Cinéart Holland will be headed by Wallie Pollé, who previously worked at Cinemien and A-Films and who recently created 1 More Films to manage the theatrical release of the minor titles in A-Films’ catalogue. The latter company is in a sense the equivalent of Cinélibre, Cinéart’s sister company, which launches Cinéart’s less major titles in theatres.

Founded 33 years ago and considered an arthouse distributor, Cinéart has long been associated with the names of great auteur directors and its catalogue is brimming with works by acclaimed festival prize-winners: Woody Allen, Loach, the Dardenne brothers, Haneke, Jarmusch, Gus Van Sant, Jia Zhang-Ke and Ang Lee.
