New low budget pilot Fund at the DFI

Rå Film is the name of the new low-budget feature film Fund set up by the Danish Film Institute (DFI) to promote diversity in Danish cinema.
With an annual budget of DKK15m (€2m), Rå Film intends to subsidise five to seven new feature films in 2008, with a potential audience of 75,000. The maximum budget for each project applying is DKK10m (€1.35m) and each one can receive up to DKK3m (€400,000). Projects eligible must have an original approach and artistic ambition, and at the same time, reflect the demands from the marketplace, unlike the DFI other low budget New Danish Screen which only takes into consideration the artistic and creative ambitions of the filmmaker.
The creation of Rå Film comes as a result of several months of discussions within the Danish film industry, keen to re-instil new energy and inspiration into local film production. DFI CEO Henrik Bo Nielsen said: “We have to listen to the signals from the market. It's important to be flexible when the market indicates a need for other types of film projects. Also, we hope to gain experiences that may be useful to us in the longer term as well."
The film projects will be evaluated by a five-person editorial committee comprising DFI film consultants Molly Malene Steensgaard and Thomas Krag, Kim Leona from New Danish Screen, theatre director Jon Steffensen and consultant Henrik Byagar. The first deadline for applications is May 13, 2008 and the second deadline is September 2, 2008.
