Minister Neumann approves producers alliance

by

The creation of the new Alliance of German Producers-Film and Television – which unites Film20, the BV (National Federation of Television Producers) and the AGEP (Association of German Entertainment Producers) (see news) – was officially announced to the press in the presence of Minister of Culture Bernd Neumann.

Alexander Thies, the new president of the direction committee, is optimistic about the venture given the number of company-members (no less than 80 companies representing film, television and other media) who joined the day the Alliance was formed.

He said: "This influx of support proves that it was high time that film and television producers spoke with one voice,” adding that “with the Alliance, we are ready for the digital challenge – our interests will be well represented".

Neumann hoped for more unanimity among producers from all sectors. He believes that this alliance will ensure greater mutual respect between the film, television and multimedia sectors.

According to Neumann, the union of German producers is all the more relevant as it is being launched in the midst of a reform of a law related to film funding. He hopes that "the Alliance will go beyond its scope and enable consensus to be reached among all producers and the film industry as a whole".
