The gangster and the fragile maiden

by

The new feature by director, screenwriter and children’s book author Maciej Wojtyszko is hitting screens more than 20 years after his last theatrical release (Angel of Fire 1985). Louise’s Garden – coming out today – is a love story, social drama and gangster film all in one.

The director plays on the psychological contrasts between the characters. Louise (Patrycja Soliman) is a young, innocent and fragile girl on the threshold of womanhood. She leads a lonely life, until she meets Fabio (Marcin Dobrocinski), a criminal and thug.

Despite their character differences and opposing worlds, an emotional bond forms between them. As could be expected, the bond becomes deeper than friendship.

Says the film’s press book: "Have you ever wondered what would happen if (Besson's) Léon fell in love with Amélie Poulain of Montmartre? Maciej Wojtyszko, the director of Louise's Garden and screenwriter Witold Horwath, asked themselves this very question".

Louise's Garden had its premiere screening at the Gdynia Polish Film Festival in September 2007. The title was well received by critics and lauded by the jury: Wojtyszko won the Special Jury Prize and Dorocinski picked up the Special Prize for Best Actor.

Louise's Garden was produced by WFDiF - Wytwórnia Filmów Dokumentalnych i Fabularnych, in co-production with Studio Filmowe Kadr, Studio Filmowe Oko, Studio Filmowe Perspektywa, Studio Filmowe Tor Studio Filmowe Tor, with backing from the Polish Film Institute (PISF). The film is being released by Film Polski.
