by

The European and International Affairs Department of the National Centre for Cinematography (CNC) has a new head.

CNC Director General Véronique Cayla has appointed Roland Husson to replace Xavier Merlin, who will join the Ministry for the Economy, Industry and Employment.

Aged 32, Husson is a graduate of the Paris Institute of Political Studies, the Scottish University of Saint Andrews and the National School of Administration (ENA). Since 2005, he had worked as a rapporteur in the media department of the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Competition.

First on the new arrival’s agenda will be two matters deemed by Cayla to be of pressing importance: the French presidency of the European Union in the field of cinema and an analysis of the reform in funding for film promotion and export, in order to remedy the shortcomings of the system identified in the report by the Club des 13 (see news) and by international sales agents. This analysis will be carried out in close consultation with professionals.
