, Sweden’s Bob Film is backing the directorial debut of another up and coming Swedish filmmaker, Beata Gårdeler.

Fem i tolv, loosely based on the best-selling autobiography by Lotta Thell, tells the gripping story of Erik, a police offer who falls in love with Eva, a 25-year-old heroin addict. Bob Films’ co-managing director Anna Croneman read the novel in 2004 and immediately thought it was great material for a feature film. “It’s a very touching and strong love story, aimed at women 25 and over,” she said.

The producer had previously collaborated on Gårdeler’s 2006 short film 2010, which dealt with a woman’s problems with alcohol. She saw similarities in the two stories and offered the feature project to Gårdeler. Then scriptwriter Karin Arrhenius (Ett öga rött) came on board. The two lead roles were given to theatre actors Malin Crépin and Joel Kinnaman.

Svensk Filmindustri – for whom Croneman worked as in-house producer before joining Bob Film in 2004 – will handle Scandinavian and international distribution rights.

Other co-financiers who contributed to the €1.7m budget include Filmpool Nord, Film i Väst, SVT, the Swedish Film Institute, the Norwegian Film Fund and Nordisk Film & TV Fond. Final editing will take place during the summer and the delivery date is set for March 2009.

Bob Film’s next feature film to go into production in May is Bröllops fotograf (“The Wedding Photographer”), the new feature film by Ulf Malmros, winner of the Best Director Guldbagge awards in 2006 for God Save the King.
