Increase in film shoots across country

by

Spanish film production hasn’t stopped growing and every year a new record is reached in terms of the number of titles produced (172 in 2007). This year, the trend appears to be continuing and this is borne out by new film shoots that have kicked off in the north (Rabia in Guipúzcoa and Trash in Barcelona) and the south (Rosa y negro and El libro de las aguas, both in Andalucia).

Rabia – which is co-produced by Spanish companies Telecinco Cinema, Monfort Producciones and Videntia Frames, Colombia’s Dinamo Capital and Mexican-based Tequila Gang – will be set in different parts of the Guipúzcoa region (thanks to a partnership with Basque regional television network ETB). This is the third film by Ecuadorian director Sebastián Cordero, who this time looks at the burning issues of immigration.

Very different in tone, Trash is currently being shot in Barcelona. This crude and ironic portrayal of romantic relationships is the solo directorial debut by Carles Torras, whose previous film, Jóvenes (“Young People”, 2004), was co-directed with Ramon Térmens. Produced by Just Films and Escándalo Films, the second half of the shoot will take place in Bucharest.

In the southern region of Andalucia, filming has begun on Gérard Jugnot’s French/Spanish co-production Rosa y negro (“Pink and Black”). The shoot will later relocate to France.

Set in the carefully reconstructed mid-sixteenth century, the film is produced by French companies Les Films Manuel Munz and Novo Arturo Films, and Spain’s Flamenco Films. The title also received backing from Eurimages.

Los Pedroches, near Cordoba in Andalucia, will host the shoot for El libro de las aguas (“The Book of Waters”), the first production by the recently-founded Bruma Films. Adapted from Alejandro López Andrada’s eponymous book, the film will be directed by Antonio Giménez Rico.
