FESTIVALS Germany

German animation films successful in Annecy

by

Three prizes went to films from Germany at the 32nd Annecy Animation Film Festival (June 9-14, 2008), one of the world's largest and most important festivals specialised in animation films.

The Audience Award in the feature film competition was picked up by Hayo Freitag for Three Robbers (Die Drei Raeuber). In the competition for short TV productions, Engel Zu Fuss by Saschka Unseld and Jakob Schuh was awarded with the prize for the best TV special. The winner of the Jury Special Award in the competition for graduation films was My Happy End by Milen Vitanov.

The great international interest in the German animation film industry could be felt at the German Animation umbrella stand in the associated Marché International du Film d’Animation (MIFA). The complete range of German animation filmmaking was represented there for the first time by German Films, AG Kurzfilm, the German Institute for Animation Film (DIAF) as well as the Association of German Animation Producers (VdAP) and its members.

German animation film will be able to attract even more attention in Annecy in the coming year. As the festival organisers announced, the country focus of the 33rd Annecyfestival (June 8-13, 2009) will be dedicated to Germany.
