Goodnight Irene travels to Edinburgh

has been selected to compete in the sidebar section Rosebud of the Edinburgh International Film Festival (June 18-29).

Starring British actor Robert Pugh, and local talents Nuno Lopes and Rita Loureiro, the film tells the story of two very different men leaving their lives behind in Lisbon, to search for Irene, a painter who has become the object of their obsession and affections (see news).

Produced by Filmes do Tejo – the Lisbon-based company that also handles international sales – Goodnight Irene was released locally on May 15 by Lusomundo and has so far grossed €10m (according to ICA's data), basking in domestic critical acclaim.

Marinou-Blanco studied cinema in New York, where he wrote and directed two short-films and worked with Spike Lee on the television project Sucker Free City. Goodnight Irene is his feature debut.
