Germany was represented at the 25-day 34th Seattle International Film Festival (May 22-June 15) with a total of eight German films and 17 German-international co-productions.

Cherry Blossoms – Hanami by Doris Doerrie celebrated its US premiere there and was presented with the Best Film Golden Space Needle Award by the audience.

Another hit with the American spectators was the short Felix by Andreas Utta, which received the Best Short Film Golden Space Needle Award.

Two directors travelled to the festival and introduced their films in person in the section entitled FutureWave: Alexandra Westmeier with her documentary Alone In Four Walls and Armin Voelckers with his feature film Leroy.

Oliver Mahrdt, German Films representative on the East Coast, was a jury member for the competition of New American Cinema.

The Seattle International Film Festival enjoys a very good reputation within the American festival scene and has developed into one of the most important industry meeting places in the past few years.
