Machulski weighs Trojan horse in latest film

by

A master at combining humour and socio-political criticism, Juliusz Machulski has a filmography that includes cult comedies Sexmission, King Size and Girl Guide. The director is currently shooting his latest film, Ile wazy kon trojanski (“How Much Does the Trojan Horse Weigh?”), which continues in the same vein and is set in Communist Poland.

The film centres on mainly female characters who appear in every scene. The plot revolves around Zosia (Ilona Ostrowska), a woman in her forties who dreams of recapturing her youth and is miraculously transported back to her past, at the time of the Popular Republic of Poland.

Through his characters, Machulski takes the audience on a journey through time. Whilst enjoying the humorous scenes (which no doubt involve a good dose of sarcasm), viewers are immersed in the smells, tastes and truly absurd situations of the bygone Communist era.

The cast also includes Maciej Marczewski, Robert Wieckiewicz, Danuta Szaflarska, Kasia Kwiatkowska and Maja Ostaszewska.

Lensed by Witold Adamek, Ile wazy kon trojanski is produced by Studio Filmowe Zebra in co-production with Telekomunikacja Polska, Wytwornia Filmow Dokumentalnych i Fabularnych and Monolith Films (who will also distribute the title).

The film has a budget of €1.5m, including backing from the PISF (Polish Film Institute) and is scheduled to premiere in January 2009.
