[“A Perfect Day”] was seen by the selection committee of the upcoming Venice Film Festival. I’d be happy to be in competition, also because it would be my first time in Venice as a director and not a jury member," Ferzan Ozpetek today told Italian daily Il Tempo what some media sources had already announced.

The Turkish director who moved to Italy in the late 1970s recently finished editing the highly anticipated project based on the eponymous novel by Melania Mazzucco. The film stars Monica Guerritore, Isabella Ferrari, Valerio Mastandrea and Valerio Binasco as a group of people destined to meet over the course of one day.

"I’m never satisfied by the stories I create,” added the director, “but this time I’m very pleased, especially so with the performances of Monica Guerritore and Isabella Ferrari, who play two women who become accomplices and friends. In the book, Guerritore’s character was actually a gay man, but I didn’t find him convincing so I changed him into a woman".

Produced by Fandango and RAI Cinema, with a contribution from the Ministry of Culture, the film will be released by 01.
