Cannes' Directors' Fortnight celebration in New York

For the first time in New York, FIAF presented the 40th edition of the radical alternative to the Cannes Film Festival, The Directors' Fortnight (La Quinzaine des Réalisateurs), with a selection of some of the best and most recent French films (Brooklyn Academy of Music's BAMcinématek from June 13 to July 3).

Now celebrating its 40th anniversary, Directors' Fortnight was created by the SRF (French Directors Society) in 1969. The festival programmed a selection of films from around the world each May, presented in Cannes, often premiering the works of independent and unknown filmmakers, including Werner Herzog, Martin Scorsese, Jim Jarmush, Michael Haneke, Spike Lee, and the Dardenne Brothers.
