, the French remake of which is out in France as Nos 18 ans) will feature a stellar cast. Ex – which starts shooting July 14 in Rome before moving to Paris and New Zealand, for a total 18-week shoot – gathers together “the phone book of Italian cinema” for a melancholic comedy about separations, break-ups and the return of old flames.

Numerous, well-known names in Italy will cross paths in the film – which according to the director “will have an ensemble structure, like Love Actually [+see also:

or Crash” – including Claudio Bisio, Nancy Brilli, Silvio Orlando and Claudia Gerini.

“The most complicated aspect was working around everyone’s commitments,” added Brizzi (who co-wrote the screenplay with Marco Martani and Massimiliano Bruno). “For example, Vincenzo Salemme will shoot his scenes while editing his film No Problem”.

The cast also features French actors Malik Zidi (“The young actor of the moment,” says Brizzi, ”a French Elio Germano and César winner”) and Cécile Cassel, who will act in Italian and plays a tattoo-covered, adrenalin-charged DJ, wooed by Fabio De Luigi and Alessandro Gassman.

Produced (like Brizzi’s previous films) by Fulvio and Federica Lucisano’s Italian International Film in collaboration with RAI Cinema, Ex is being made on a €8.5m budget, 10% of which comes from French co-producers Paradis Film and Mes Films.

The Italian release by 01 Distribution is set for the day before Valentine’s Day, February 13, 2009.
