(2004), the title is produced by Austrian company Coop 99 (a platform for the new generation of Austrian filmmakers, managed by the director and her colleagues Barbara Albert, Martin Gschlacht and Antonin Svoboda and whose quality productions have won numerous awards) in co-production with Germany’s Essential Filmproduktion. This time, a third country is also backing the project.

The film is also co-produced by France’s Philippe Bober for Société Parisienne de Production. As a European co-production, Lourdes also received €350,000 in production funding from Eurimages.

The shoot – which wrapped up in early June – took place in Austria and the city of Lourdes, with a crew that featured many French members. Written by Hausner, the film centres on a young woman (Sylvie Testud) who suffers from multiple sclerosis.

She travels to Lourdes, along with a sceptical companion, and is miraculously cured. The title also stars Bruno Todeschini, Petra Morzé and Gerhard Liebmann.

Hausner has certainly developed good relations with France; her previous two films screened at Cannes and it is not unlikely that her third feature will also be selected for the festival. Lourdes is set to be completed at the start of next year.
