Swiss films get premiere screening at Montreal

Two Swiss features will be shown in international premiere at the 32nd Montreal World Film Festival (August 21-September 1). Luzius Rüedi’s Sunny Hill will screen in the Debut Films Competition and Vincent PlussDu bruit dans la tête (“Noise in the Head”) is included in the Focus on World Cinema section.

In Sunny Hill, six youngsters who meet on an online forum dedicated to suicide get together for a final trip to the Swiss Alps. Patrick Rapold, Uta Kargel, Maryam Zaree, Araba Walton, Christian Weber, Karsten Mielke and Beat Marti star in this “film about life, death and other trifles”. The title is produced by young, Zurich-based company Das Kollektiv.

The new feature by the winner of the 2003 Swiss Film Prize (for On dirait le Sud), Du bruit dans la tête takes the form of an interior monologue and tells the story of the encounter between a young journalist and a drop-out on the streets of Geneva. The cast includes Céline Bolomey, Gabriel Bonnefoy, François Nadin, Frédéric Landenberger and Lucie Zelger. Produced by Intermezzo Films, the title is set to be released at the end of the year.

Moreover, two documentaries have been selected in the Documentaries of the World section: Sylvie Cachin’s Claudette and Eric Grant’s Une année de sable (“A Year of Sand”). A minority Swiss co-production by Peacock Film (Zurich) – Masángeles by Uruguayan director Beatriz Flores Silva – and three shorts will also represent Switzerland.
