Spike Lee in 7th place, Pupi Avati in the top 10
by Camillo de Marco
The controversy sparked by Spike Lee’s Miracle at St. Anna [+see also:
film profile] has not helped the film, which was co-produced by Italy’s Roberto Cicutto and Luigi Musini through their new outfit On My Own. In its opening weekend in Italy, the film came in just seventh with €425.886 (01 Distribution).
According to this morning’s Cinetel data, which covers 85% of Italian theatres, Phyllida Lloyd’s musical comedy Mamma Mia! (distr. Universal), starring Meryl Streep, immediately took the number two spot after Rob Cohen’s The Mummy (Universal).
With the exception of Miracle at St. Anna and Pupi Avati’s Giovanna’s Father, in 10th place (€322,851), US titles pushed Italian films out of top ten: Gianni Di Gregorio’s hit Mid-August Lunch [+see also:
